Mandala photographs

These mandala photos can sometimes take time to perceive, as to what the image is of. Initially, we are simply drawn to a pattern, but perceptions shift and the experience of the image changes before our very eyes. These images each start off as a conventional digital photograph, and the only further manipulation is then adjustment to correct the colour, tone and brightness. The image is then cut into triangles and re-assembled into rounds.
"Apple" and " Walnut" allude to the huge stained glass windows of Christian cathedrals; the awe and beauty being similarly stunning. Many cathedrals are said to be inspired by the groves and rides in mature woodland: huge fluted columnes branching out into vaulted roofs. Also, like the mandalas of many Eastern religions, they represent the meditative perception of connection to harmony and Spirit, or "God". They also echo principles in Islamic art: geometric pattern with no human or animal representations. Ultimately, Spirit is present in nature and is especially visible in the patterns of nature. Through these images, we can reach the ultimate perception of our world's diverse religions: that "all trees share the same root."
