Original and creative answers for your seating needs in all environments.
Private, memorial and civic settings
The designs for my curved benches arise from the desire to create sensual forms, and the practical realization that most seating is not conducive to the way that we relate to each other. Conventional seating designs dictate that those who sit, entirely face in the same direction, causing people to twist their heads uncomfortably in order to maintain eye-contact. Curves and circles in the design allow people to face each other, prompting contact and conversation, and also allow for the need for ones own space, and privacy, where we can turn away from others. I also wanted to design seating to be multi functional; so that people are able to sit in a variety of ways, or to lie down; or for children to play around and on. Some seats offer a 360 degree view - democratic seating - where the users choose how and where to sit.

Code C01 "S bench" 11 feet long and made from English oak. Because of the planks running length ways the grain of these planks must follow the shape of the seat. The wood needs to be cut from curved trees and so there is a 2 year lead time for this bench

With these curved benches I often supply a paper template for you to place in the space where the bench is to be sited. This is to make sure that the bench will fit and that you are happy with the size and shape. It can be difficult to to judge the shape of a bench just from a photgraph. |
